Aga Muhlach Says He Will Never Venture Into Politics

Aga Muhlach
Aga Mulach’s annual charity work with Jollibee was hailed a success as over 400 beneficiaries from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) attended Maaga Ang Pasko Grand Bash held last December 18 at the Mega Tent Ortigas.
The country’s original heartthrob personally distributed the Jolly toys and books donated by Filipinos all over the country. “This is the launch of [Maaga Ang Pasko] gift giving which is a nationwide [drive]. I felt so happy when I found out that we were able to collect, with the help of the Jolly Toy Scouts, 114,000 [donations] in Metro Manila alone.
Like last year kasi nakakuha kami ng 90,000 plus nationwide. It’s a great [improvement] despite the fact na sabi nga nila mahirap ang buhay ngayon. But still when it comes to giving, when it comes to the spirit of Christmas, the people are still there to help,” he told ABS-CBN.com in an interview right after the said event.
With his successful career and family life, Aga further claimed that all he wants now is to touch lives especially those who need a little love or a ray of hope amidst an otherwise bleak world. “Yeah I think that’s nice kasi kung makakita man tayo sa balita ng mga masasama, I mean when it comes to government it’s all bad news. So you know, madami pa ring mababait na Pilipino, lahat gusto pa rin maging masaya lang sa buhay.
Kahit papaano I’m just happy to be part of this yearly [activity]. I get to do this and I get to feel yung Christmas talaga.” As a father himself, it just saddens him to see a lot of kids who don’t have families of their own to celebrate the Yuletide season with. “Kaya iba yung pakiramdam na kasama sila ngayon especially yung maga may kakulangan sa buhay. At least nakakaramdam sila ng pagmamahal and hopefully paglaki nila magkaroon din sila ng magandang kinabukasan at hindi sila mapunta sa masama,” he said.
As a matter of fact, his only wish this Christmas is for the government to be able to focus on providing concrete solutions to the plight of the less fortunate and not keep a blind eye to anomalies involving the politicians themselves. “I just hope and pray na magbago na talaga dapat ang sistema ng gobyerno natin.
I mean it’s time dahil masyado ng open, masyado ng talamak ang nakawan. But I don’t want to point fingers dahil wala naman akong karapatan at hindi rin naman tayo sigurado kung ginagawa ba nila yun or hindi. But what I’d like to say is we hear all these billions or hundreds of millions na lumalabas sa mga budget-budget. Sa akin lang, it’s about time we share naman sa mga mahihirap pati na rin sa mga taong naghahanap-buhay.
Gawin nating maayos itong bansa natin because bansa natin ito. Hindi rin naman ang mga opisyales ang may-ari ng bansang ito kundi tayo rin. Let's all work hand in hand to make this a better country because sayang talaga yung bansa natin, there's so much promise [in it],” he stressed.
Coupled with his undeniable charisma and mass popularity, perhaps it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if he too ventures into politics like what other big stars do so they can make a difference in the bigger scheme of things. Aga denied, however, that he has plans to run in the 2010 elections to further his desire to help the underprivileged. “No I am not running. I will never run. That’s very clear. That’s very clear.
What I have mentioned is just my personal wish for the country. I’m not running. Never,” he reiterated. He doesn’t even have plans to endorse any candidate on the much-awaited political event. “Nah, wala na ako d’yan. Tao na ang bahala d’yan. I mean vote wisely guys. It’s all up to us,” he simply stated.
